Nebulizers
Nebulizers – Aerosol Therapy Devices for Asthma, COPD & Respiratory Conditions
A nebulizer is a medical device that converts liquid medication into a fine aerosol mist that can be inhaled directly into the lungs. Nebulizers are essential for delivering bronchodilators, corticosteroids, mucolytics, and antibiotics to patients with asthma, COPD, bronchitis, cystic fibrosis, and other respiratory conditions. At Meddey, our nebulizer collection includes compressor nebulizers (jet nebulizers), ultrasonic nebulizers, and mesh nebulizers for home use, clinical settings, and paediatric applications. We supply nebulizers to pulmonology clinics, ICUs, paediatric wards, and home patients across India.
How Do Nebulizers Work?
Jet (compressor) nebulizers use compressed air to break liquid medication into tiny droplets (1–5 microns) that are carried into the respiratory tract with each inhalation. Ultrasonic nebulizers use high-frequency vibration to aerosolise the medication. Mesh nebulizers use a vibrating mesh membrane to produce an ultra-fine mist. Particle size is critical – particles of 1–5 microns reach the lower airways and alveoli, while larger particles deposit in the upper airways and mouth.
Types of Nebulizers at Meddey
Compressor Nebulizers (Jet Nebulizers): The most widely used type, powered by an electric air compressor. Reliable, cost-effective, and compatible with most respiratory medications. Available in tabletop, portable, and paediatric models.
Ultrasonic Nebulizers: Quieter than compressor models, using ultrasonic vibration to aerosolise medication. Not suitable for all medications (heat-sensitive proteins may degrade). Good for saline nebulisation.
Mesh Nebulizers: The most advanced type, producing the finest particle size with minimal medication waste. Lightweight, battery-operated, and virtually silent. Ideal for travel and paediatric use.
When Is Nebulizer Therapy Indicated?
Nebulizer therapy is indicated for acute asthma attacks and bronchospasm, COPD exacerbations, croup in children, bronchiectasis with thick secretions, cystic fibrosis management, respiratory infections requiring aerosolised antibiotics, humidification of airways in tracheostomised patients, and delivery of surfactant in neonatal respiratory distress.
Nebulizer vs Inhaler – Which Is Better?
Inhalers (MDIs and DPIs) are preferred for maintenance therapy in stable patients due to portability and efficiency. Nebulizers are preferred for acute attacks in patients unable to coordinate inhaler technique, children under 5, patients with severe airflow obstruction, and situations requiring high medication doses. Many patients use inhalers for daily maintenance and keep a nebulizer for acute management at home.
Why Buy Nebulizers from Meddey?
Meddey stocks nebulizers from trusted manufacturers used in hospitals and homes across India. Our range covers all patient categories from neonates to adults, with face masks, mouthpieces, and medication cups included. GST invoicing is available for clinics and hospitals.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does a nebulizer treatment session take? A typical nebulizer session with bronchodilator medication takes 10–15 minutes. Treatment time depends on medication volume (usually 3–5 mL), nebulizer type, and flow rate.
How do I clean and maintain a nebulizer? After each use, rinse the nebulizer cup and mask with warm water. Weekly disinfection with vinegar solution or as recommended by the manufacturer. Replace the nebulizer cup every 3–6 months and filter every 3 months.
