Frequently Asked Questions
When should I change a wound dressing? Dressing change frequency depends on wound type and exudate level. Heavily exuding wounds may need daily changes. Advanced dressings like hydrocolloids and foam dressings are designed for wear times of 3–7 days. Signs that a dressing needs changing include strike-through (exudate visible on outer surface), leakage, odour, or patient discomfort.
What is the correct way to apply a crepe bandage? Apply with firm, even tension using figure-of-eight turns for joints or spiral turns for limb segments. Ensure 50% overlap between turns. Check circulation distal to the bandage – fingers and toes should remain warm and pink.
